About Us

History

For many decades, the Muslim community in Miyazaki longed for a dedicated place of worship, but the dream of establishing a mosque seemed out of reach. However, through the shared vision and unwavering commitment of key figures like Kenji Sayed, Ziaurrahman Hejazi, and Shahinur Alam, this goal was eventually realized. Their combined efforts, supported by generous donations from Kuwait Society for Humanitarian Action (KSHW) and with the necessary legal approvals, culminated in the completion of Miyazaki’s first mosque in 2022. The Miyazaki Islamic Society (MIS) greatly appreciated the cooperation of the Miyazaki government in releasing the necessary permits, as well as the understanding of the local Japanese neighbours who agreed on the presence of Masjid in their locality. The facility was initially a two-floor house building, which was minimally reformed internally to make it suitable for performing congregational prayers.

The successful establishment of the Miyazaki Masjid marked a significant achievement for the local Muslim community. For years, Muslims in the area had sought a place to gather for prayer, Islamic lectures, teaching and cultural exchange. Individuals such as Jun Maeda, Rana Ismail and many other dedicated members of the community worked tirelessly over the years to keep the dream alive. Their efforts helped pave the way for what is now a central hub for Muslims in Miyazaki Prefecture.

The mosque (Masjid) is not only a place of worship but also a gathering point for the diverse Muslim population, including tourists, employees, workers, and students from various countries. Its close proximity to the University of Miyazaki (UoM) makes it a valuable resource for Muslim students and researchers, enabling them to perform their religious rituals. The Masjid also fosters a sense of community among Muslims in the area and serves as a meeting point for local and international visitors alike.
